AFTER MORE THAN five years without an artificial surface at the home of hockey, the new turf is expected to be in place at Wildey by the end of next month.

The revelation was made by Barbados Olympic Association assistant secretary general Cameron Burke during a send-off on Wednesday night for the national men’s hockey team heading to the FIH Hockey World League in Salamanca, Mexico.

“The good news is that hopefully by the end of October you should have a new pitch. At present we are awaiting the approval of the duty-free concession from the Ministry of Finance. It has been recommended that it be approved. They are just waiting on the letter to come back,” Burke told the audience at the BOA’s Wildey headquarters. (RG)
