DIRECTOR of the Psychiatric Hospital David Leacock is backing the decisions made by his staff on treatment administered to patients.
Speaking to the WEEKEND NATION recently, Leacock said any person referred to the mental health facility would first have to undergo a thorough examination before any medication was prescribed for them.
His comments have come against the backdrop of recent allegations by Mitchelle Marksman that her daughter, a ward at the Government Industrial School (GIS), was being continually sent to the hospital for treatment despite not suffering from any mental condition or having a mental history.
Marksman had also expressed concern over the medication being given to her 15-year-old daughter, claiming that it was turning her into a “zombie”. (RB)
