DR KEITH MITCHELL says it is a destructive way of running West Indies cricket with the elevation of young talented cricketers like Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite to the captaincy, while ignoring more worthy and experienced players.
Referring to the West Indies’ poor showing under Brathwaite’s leadership in the three Twenty20 Internationals against Pakistan, the Grenada Prime Minister contended that team selection, especially the captaincy, was dead wrong.
He said the decisions made the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the selectors are undermining the confidence and talent of young cricketers, while hurting the region’s game.
“Look what they are doing to the West Indies team. The constant fight between the board, players, coaches, everybody is having tremendous negative impact at different levels,” said Mitchell while in New York for the funeral of former Grenada Ambassador to the United Nations, Sir Lamuel Stanislaus.
