IT’S NOW SAFE to go outside.
Following an almost 48-hour shut down of the island, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) moments ago gave the all-clear.
While all businesses and Government agencies have been given the go ahead to re-open, Deputy Director of the DEM Captain Robert Harewood told members of the media schools would remain closed today, while the Transport Board will resume service at 8 a.m.
The Grantley Adams International Airport will also re-open.
“The National Emergency Operations Centre has given the all-clear following the passing of Tropical Storm Matthew as of 5:45 this morning. Schools will remain closed and the Transport Board will resume full operations in two hours. Businesses can resume full operations and the public service will also resume full operations,” he said.
“Teams would have gone out from last night and nothing untoward would have been found and therefore we are issuing the all-clear under the guidance of the National Emergency Operations Centre and our Minister for Barbados to resume full operations.” (RB)
