DIRECTOR of Barbados Meteorological Services, Hampden Lovell, wants Barbadians to trust his team.

“We are accustomed to getting a whole lot of licks but I think this time there is nobody who can give the Met Office any licks for the amount of work we did,” he told the DAILY NATION yesterday from his office at Charnocks, Christ Church, moments after Barbados was placed under a tropical storm watch.

As expected, some people took to social media yesterday morning questioning the office’s reports on the weather, while many defied the shutdown and ventured outside.

However, while the sun at times shone brightly during the morning, by early afternoon the skies opened up to torrential showers and gusty winds. What was earlier described as a tropical disturbance grew into Tropical Storm Matthew in just a few hours. (MB)
