RACING SLICKS, grooved rain tyres and rooster tails of water spray were among the characteristics as champion driver Nicholas Gill led a cadre of drivers into winners row as Round 8 of the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) SDRR Motorsports/Chefette Restaurants Championships were settled at Bushy Park last Sunday.

Gill ended at the top of the Yamaha 310lb Class with 54 points, while Kyffin Simpson topped the Easykart 60cc Class with 64. Adam Mallalieu is at the top of the Easykart 100cc Class with 66, Trinidad and Tobago’s Isa Deen is at the top of the Easykart 125cc Class with 68, Mark Thompson has 75 and heads the Easykart 125cc Masters’ Class and Ricky Kirton has 71 at the top of the X30 Class.

The day’s action started in wet conditions with competitors having to switch tyre design from the normal racing slicks to grooved rain tyre design for practice and qualifying sessions for the first two races.

As track conditions dried, competitors switched back to the normal racing slicks in time for the group races.  (TT)
