IT WAS a night of nerves, fight backs and plenty of barking in the Barbados Public Workers’ Credit Union’s Monarchs of the Court at the Cable & Wireless courts, Wildey on Sunday.

The highlight was Curtis Jones’ thrilling three-sets19-21, 24-22, 21-15 triumph over the aggressive Davien “Force Ripe” Taylor in the feature match.

Jones, Barbados’ No.4-ranked player, showed steely resolve as he came from the brink of elimination after the improving Taylor had taken the first set to win the second set which went to deuce.

Taylor led 14-8 in that second set and seemed on course for victory but he became over confident and in his rush to finish off Jones, hit out a number of smashes. (EZS)
