THE LONG periods of waiting for garbage collection should soon be over for Barbadians.

A two-week timeframe is what is being given for the new garbage collection programme to go into effect through a partnership between the private sector and Sanitation Services Authority (SSA).

The news, delivered by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler during a meeting with business operators yesterday, follows a barrage of complaints that span many months about the unsightly, smelly garbage pile-ups across the country, and the associated health risks.

Sinckler expects the proposal to be approved at tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting, and said he has given the nod for the necessary funds to become available immediately. (WILLCOMM)
