SOME MEMBERS of the local Rastafarian community have suggested that they take all their children out of the public school system as a show of solidarity with two of their colleagues.
The call for this action came at a meeting on Monday night at the Israel Lovell Foundation where Rastafarians and other members of the society met to hear and discuss the case of a Rastafarian couple who were convicted by a magistrate for not sending their two children to school.
The couple will be sentenced on Friday.
“My proposal will be short, brief and may be seen as quite militant. But I think a large statement could be made if all Rastafari families pull their children out of the schools. Make a statement doing that,” one member of the audience said following a speech by the father of the two children. (AD)
