WATER WOES: Returning national may head back to the US

WATER IS AN essential resource for daily life, however there are some areas of Barbados which continue to struggle to access it on a daily basis. The WEEKEND NATION visited a few of those areas and spoke to those affected, to put a human face on the crisis. These are their stories.

LAWRENCE TAITT came home from the United States to retire and live the dream, but now he is living a nightmare – a dry one.

Taitt lives in Benn Hill Woods, St Peter, and has not had running water for more than a week.

“We’ve been out of water since September 25. The water used to go off at 5 a.m so you better shower before then. The pipe might trickle from around 2:30 p.m. and then go off again after 11 p.m., it would come on and go off at 5 a.m., but now there’s nothing. Period,” he said.

Taitt showed the team three 50-gallon drums he had filled back when the water was iffy. They are now all empty and Taitt has resorted to driving around in search of a standpipe, or buying water. (CA)
