WATER IS AN essential resource for daily life, however there are some areas of Barbados which continue to struggle to access it on a daily basis. The WEEKEND NATION visited a few of those areas and spoke to those affected, to put a human face on the crisis. These are their stories.

LAWRENCE TAITT came home from the United States to retire and live the dream, but now he is living a nightmare – a dry one.

Taitt lives in Benn Hill Woods, St Peter, and has not had running water for more than a week.

“We’ve been out of water since September 25. The water used to go off at 5 a.m so you better shower before then. The pipe might trickle from around 2:30 p.m. and then go off again after 11 p.m., it would come on and go off at 5 a.m., but now there’s nothing. Period,” he said.

Taitt showed the team three 50-gallon drums he had filled back when the water was iffy. They are now all empty and Taitt has resorted to driving around in search of a standpipe, or buying water. (CA)
