THE COUNTRY’S ERRATIC sanitation collection could take a further blow as the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) contemplates industrial action at the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA).
NUPW officials are saying there is something sinister about the new arrangement with private waste haulers.
A near three-hour meeting between SSA workers and their representative, the NUPW, at the union’s Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters degenerated, at times, into a shouting match, with NUPW president Akanni McDowall urging the 100 or so SSA employees to stick to “the plan”.
Speaking to the MIDWEEK NATION before dashing off to another engagement, McDowall said the workers “were very, very aggrieved”. (HLE)
