THE CREATION of the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) will boost efficiency at the island’s ports of entry, says Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss.

And he is giving his full support to the initiative, which calls for the transfer of customs officers to the authority, a move that has left the Government at odds with trade unions.

Inniss made his position clear while delivering the feature address on Monday at a regional consultation on CARICOM’s strategy for regional implementation of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreement on trade facilitation, at the Radisson Aquatica hotel, Aquatic Gap, St Michael.

The Government’s aim, he said, was to smoothen operations for the sake of increased efficiency and to reduce congestion at the ports of entry. (MR)
