Ivy man remanded on gun, ammo charges

A54-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded to prison on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He is Jeffrey William Chandler of The Ivy, St Michael.

The alleged offences were committed on Saturday at Kew Road, Bank Hall, in the same parish.

Police public relations officer Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler said officers on mobile patrol spotted Chandler and another man around 12:40 a.m.

Chandler reportedly began to fidget with his pants on seeing the police and this aroused their suspicions.

They requested permission to conduct a search of his person and this was granted.

“Whilst conducting the search, the police discovered a black pouch around his waist under his pants.

A search of the pouch subsequently revealed a firearm and six rounds of ammunition,” Cobbler said.

Chandler was subsequently arrested and charged.  

He appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today was remanded to Her Majesty Prison Dodds until November 21, 2016. (PR/NB)
