Barbados not on US waiver list

IT WAS JUST a hoax.

In fact, it had been a hoax since last month that simply resurfaced yesterday.

For a few hours, Barbadian travellers were cock-a-hoop when the “news” broke that citizens would no longer require a visa for short-term travel to the United States.

Users of social media site Facebook and Whatsapp had received short messages from an Internet source which indicated the United States’ State Department had made Barbados the 39th country to become part of its Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), where Barbadians would no longer require a visa to enter the US for business or tourism.

But that was until an official message from the US Embassy’s Facebook account in Barbados denied the claim. (BA)
