Eight picked for boxing tourney

EIGHT BOXERS out of 28 have been chosen to represent the island at the upcoming Barbados Development Boxing Tournament.

The tournament, which comes off at the Barbados Beach Club from December 6 to 13, will attract boxers from 17 islands across the region.

The local team, comprising five women and three men, including two teenagers, are a force to be reckoned with, according to coach Calvin Nowell.

“Many of the girls have won the majority of their matches and show a lot of promise,” he told NATIONSPORT during a training session at the Belfield Boxing Gym, Black Rock, St Michael. (RA)
