BARBADOS HAS ENTERED another partnership aimed at strengthening its judiciary.

Senior officials yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding between the judiciary of Barbados and the five-year Justice Reform and Institutional Strengthening (JURIST) project.

On Monday, a consultative workshop commenced to assist in the development of a gender protocol through a partnership with United Nations Women, JURIST and the Caribbean Association of Judicial Officers (CAJO). Last week, the magistrates’ courts were presented with digital recording equipment from the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom.

In attendance at yesterday’s signing ceremony at the Supreme Court were Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, director of JURIST Project Dr Penny Reedie, programme team leader for the JURIST Project Michele Gibson, along with judges, members of the clergy and legal community, members of the project implementation committee and project director for Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice), Professor Velma Newton.
