The 2016 Cave Shepherd/Berger Royals/A One Supermarkets National Primary Schools’ Road Tennis Championships proved to be so good when the round of 16 knockout matches came off at KFC Warrens yesterday.
While defending champions St Cyprian’s moved past Vauxhall Primary in straight wins, their opponents in the quarter-finals, West Terrace Primary, advanced with greater ease as Charles F. Broome gave up their qualifying spot.
However, St Stephen’s Primary and St Philip Primary had to battle from a first game scare to defeat Bay Primary and St Martin’s Mangrove respectively. Azarie Clarke of St Stephen’s was edged by Michael Brown of Bay 19-21.
Mikhail Grant-Bennett responded viciously for St Stephen’s by handing Adrianno Gamble a sow 21-3. Azarie’s younger brother Sauve Clarke was smooth in outplaying Traquon Sealy 21-16 for St Stephen’s to set up a date with St. Jude’s on Monday. (KB)
