Accused abortionist gets bail

A MAN accused of “[intending] to procure a miscarriage” by unlawfully inserting tablets into a woman’s vagina was granted $30 000 bail yesterday.

Andre Rudolph Sylvester Benskin, 25, of Mount Hillaby, St Thomas, appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court. However, he was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was granted bail with one surety.

The charge against the mechanical engineer states that: with intent to procure the miscarriage of a woman whether she was or was not with child, he unlawfully inserted tablets into her vagina on November 19.

There was no objection to bail by prosecutor Station Sergeant Neville Reid.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant ordered that Benskin report to the District “D” Police Station every Monday and Thursday before noon with valid identification, and to keep away from the complainant and her residence. He was also required to surrender his travel documents. (TKS)
