Sad time for some returning Bajans

IT WAS a bittersweet moment for some Barbadians who returned home over the weekend.

Some had to battle between feelings of grief and jubilation about Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence, which will be celebrated tomorrow.

June Mapp, who lives in Wembley, England, said she returned home last June, but she was feeling a bit down that now she was back to attend the funeral of a relative. Despite this, she said she was still looking forward to the Independence Day celebrations.

“I’m looking to all of the activities, the celebrations and the food – even though I get all of it at home,” she joked.

Askerton Cyrus and his family also flew in to attend a funeral – that of his 90-year-old brother. (TSG)
