Canadian pleads guilty to drug charges, pays fine

A CANADIAN VISITOR who pleaded guilty to four drug charges today was handed over to Immigration officers after paying a $15 000 fine.

Twenty-one-year-old Andriy Kogut arrived in Barbados from Canada yesterday. After clearing Immigration and retrieving his luggage, his proceeded to Customs where he was interviewed and searched.

Twenty-three sealed packages containing cannabis were found in a false bottom of his suitcase.

Kogut was subsequently arrested by police and charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

When he appeared in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court today before Acting Magistrate Elwood Watts, he was fined for the offence of importation and convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the other offences. (PR/NB)
