FIVE of Barbados’ top swimmers will be hitting the chilly waters in Windsor, Canada, from today in a bid to claim fame and fortune in the FINA World Short Course Championship.
Danielle Titus, McKayla Treasure, Alex Sobers, Lani Cabrera left for Canada yesterday to link up with foreign-based Christopher Courtis.
Lots of cash awards are available for winners in this world events with even bigger bucks on offer for breaking world records.
Sobers will be battling in one of the longer races, the metres, as most of the competition will be at 50 metres and 100 metres.
Manager Andrea Titus said that this will be Barbados’ second foray at the high-level event.
“We recognise that our young swimmers will be battling against the best in the world since this will not be an age group competition,” she said. “However, we are confident that they will give it their best shot and seek to surprise some of their bigger rivals.”
