SENSENTIONAL Kimberly Gittens will be looking to repeat as light welterweight champion tonight when the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament concludes at the Sea Rocks Dome.

She will be up against Cindy Claudio of the United States Virgin Island. The crafty Bajan qualified for the final with a one-sided points victory over Laura Arismendy of Guadeloupe.

“I executed my game plan and everything worked out very well, so I’m thankful. The European style of boxing is very difficult to get used to because we are not used to it, but I stuck to my game plan and ended up on the way to the greener side of the pasture,” said a delighted Gittens.

The well travelled fighter, who was crowned best female fighter at last year’s tournament in Guyana, talked about her expectations for the final: “I am definitely aiming for gold, plus I think it will be a perfect gift for our 50th anniversary of Independence. I want the fans to come out and support us and we will do our best.” (AD)
