Lashley: More than a tourney

THE NATIONAL UNDER-17 Football Tournament is not just about scoring goals, making sliding tackles and effecting brilliant saves, Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley said yesterday.

Giving the feature address at the opening ceremony at the Ellerton Playing Field, he said the competition, now in its second year and a collaboration between the Ministry of Sport and the National Sports Council, was not only established to enhance the development of the sport but the individual as a whole.

“We recognise that this tournament is simply not a football tournament. It is simply not a tournament where players from the 30 constituencies across Barbados engage in the whole aspect of who wins, that is not what it is all about,” he said.
