Lawyers explain MPs’ PAC no-show

LAWYERS FOR THREE Government ministers say their clients are not hiding from Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

However, the legal team led by Queen’s Counsel Hal Gollop yesterday insisted that Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler, Minister of Housing and Lands Denis Kellman, and Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley were summoned in a “procedurally flawed” manner and were therefore advised to stay away.

Moreover, the attorneys condemned the summonses from PAC chairman Mia Mottley, calling them “illegal” by their “very nature” as they purported “to use the stated jurisdiction of examining to effectively hold an inquiry”.

In the lengthy response, Gollop, along with attorneys Michael Yearwood and Neil Marshall, made it clear that Sinckler, Kellman and Lashley were prepared to “comply with any lawful request from any of the committees of Parliament, including the Public Accounts Committee”. (GE)
