$2m. to fix sewerage system

WITH THE SOUTH coast sewage situation seemingly reaching crisis levels among business owners and residents, the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has finally outlined a way out of the mess.

At a multi-sectoral press conference yesterday, chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTI), Stuart Layne, and BWA acting general manager Dr John Mwansa explained that through the BTI, the BWA was in the process of replacing the four obsolete effluent pumps and 18 diffusers plaguing the sewerage system.

Layne, whose organisation will provide the funding, informed the media at Hilton Barbados Resort that the repair project was expected to cost $2 million and take ten weeks to complete.
