BARBADIAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT commuters are about to get a special Christmas gift that could keep them smiling down to the middle of next year.

Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley confirmed yesterday that a draft framework had been completed that would allow private transporters, including operators of minibuses and tour coaches, to enter bus terminals during peak periods and transport commuters on 14 routes.

And they should start rolling into City terminals before the end of the Christmas holidays.

Lashley outlined the plan to the DAILY NATION yesterday after weeks of strong criticism of the Transport Board from commuters left fuming in terminals for several hours because of an acute shortage of buses to meet peak demand. (RRM)
