BRIAN TALMA took the time out to honour a few members of the Barbadian community during the Beach Culture Pro Awards at Action Beach Silver Sands on Saturday evening.

The veteran windsurfer, who was named one of Barbados’ 50 Sporting Icons and received a Jubilee Award for the 50th anniversary of Independence told NATIONSPORT the community was a major part of his project.

“What it was about foremost was community and the project I call organic tourism. It’s about promoting people in the community, local businesses in the community, healthy minds and safe communities where everybody looks after each other,” said Talma.

During the ceremony he also officially opened the wind, kite and paddle surfing season, which runs from November to July. (RG)
