MORE THAN 45 000 cruise ship passengers and crew will descend on Barbados over the holidays between Monday and Wednesday.
Sixteen cruise ships are scheduled to call at the Bridgetown Port over the three days and local cruise expert Martin Ince said it was an indication of the island’s increasing popularity in the cruise market.
Ince, chief executive officer of Foster and Ince Cruises, told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday that cruise business between October 2016 and September 2017 appeared set to exceed last year’s performance by ten per cent, with close to 800 000 cruise visitors expected.
Over 700 000 cruise passengers came through Barbados in the corresponding period one year earlier, when 458 cruise ship called, and he said his agency had bookings for 480 ship calls, representing a five per cent increase over last year. (GC)
