FLYING FISH & COU COU: Mottley keeps Govt on its toes

SOMETHING HAPPENING ‘BOUT here, but it is not Cou Cou’s place to guess.

All we can do is connect the dots and hopefully arrive at the correct answer.

Our concern is the Government’s reaction to Mia Mottley’s two key revelations at the Barbados Labour Party’s mass meeting in Top Rock, Christ Church.

The Queen Bee outlined what was wrong with the , from it not properly functioning for the last three years down to the blocked effluent outflow pipes in the sea.

Since then what Minister of Health John Boyce has said about the system confirmed Mottley was right.

The not-so-funny thing is that in October 2015 Mottley had warned Government about the state of this system but, as usual, was mocked – now this!

Mottley also called on Government to tell the public the truth about what was really going on and how bad things are, as the recent temporary suspension of trade in our dollars by Guyana’s central bank could be a sign that Barbados may be returning to the clutches of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). And she reminded that the last time the Guyanese stopped taking our currency was in 1991 just before the Democratic Labour Party regime of Erskine Sandiford (now Sir Lloyd) went to the IMF.

Since then no Government official has responded to this. Cou Cou finds that strange, don’t you?

Normally officials dismiss or give another perspective on most things the Opposition says. Not this time though.

Is Mottley bowling unplayable deliveries?

 Minister’s loose lips

THE FOLLOWING was sent to Cou Cou regarding Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss’ statement on Sunday that Prime Minister Freundel Stuart needs to talk to the country more, and Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson must get the judiciary functioning efficiently.

‘Twas days before Christmas and Freundel was sad,

His carefully crafted silent strategy was deemed bad;

It was not from the Opposition this criticism came,

But Donville from his own side was to blame.

As is Donville’s custom his words were like bullets from a gun

Piercing any illusion public interest matters are fun;

They hit Freundel and Sir Marston straight in the heart

As he didn’t mince words on how they should play their parts.

Tell about projects, PM – if there is a delay and why;

“Be frank with the country. . . It is no secret,” he cried.

As for the judiciary, Donville is unimpressed with their pace;

He’s all for giving them resources and if need be, the chief replace.

How could he talk about me like that? Freundel wondered.

What can I do with him without splitting the party? he pondered.

Donville made me look small in Bajans’ eyes,

Should I fire him or make him publicly apologise?

Freundel was upset but a supporter offered her view,

He needs to be made an example of, she mused;

Send him packing and show Bajans you’re in control,

Crush him to show any other dissenters the price of talking a roll.

Other Dems said Donville was out of line and should be replaced;

They argue loose lips sink ships, so there is enough of a case.

But the general feeling is that Freundel can’t touch a man,

The Eager 11 and Estwick slammed him before and kept their hand.

So Donville’s outburst will be treated as no more than hot air;

Maybe just a slip of the tongue after imbibing spirited fare.

He therefore need not worry about his political future,

Hopefully the next time he blast Freundel, he would be shrewder.
