Fund call

FORMER Minister of Social Transformation Hamilton Lashley is calling for the establishment of a fund to support former national sporting representatives in need of assistance.

“We take sports too lightly in Barbados and we need to do better for our sportsmen and sportswomen. No ex-national player in this country should have to struggle to earn a living, or to get compensated for the tremendous work they have done at that level. Let us help them in more tangible ways and not just the occasional fundraiser,” he said in an interview with the SATURDAY SUN

Making it clear he was not criticising the efforts of anyone, he said he believed that there needed to be more sustainability.

Using former national footballer Keith Griffith as an example, he charged that better definitely needed to be done for our local unsung heroes. (RA)
