SOME CITY STORE OWNERS are not convinced opening their doors on public holidays benefits them, even if there are a number of cruise ships calling in the Bridgetown Port.
Yesterday three shops on Broad Street opened for business as five ships docked in port.
Hiranand Thani, owner of The Royal Shop, said he opted to open yesterday when he saw the island was expecting 16 ships and 45 000 visitors between Sunday, yesterday and tomorrow.
“The amount of tourists coming off the shop did not merit us opening on the two days; it is not cost-effective,” he said, adding that they would have to pay staff double for working on holidays. (LK)
