FISHERFOLK are hoping for a rise in fortunes this Easter after boats experienced low catches during the recent Independence and Christmas holidays.
From the Paynes Bay market, St James to the Berinda Cox market in Oistins the lament from the vendors is consistent: the tides are not bringing sufficient fish their way.
At Paynes Bay, a fish vendor who gave her name as Ms Young said low sales at Christmas could be attributed to the fact that the boats did not go out at Independence.
“Right now things looking so down I cannot say,” she said.
Sandra Hinds who operates from the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex said, however, that sales for Christmas were not bad and the fishing season looked promising. (LK)
