Flags ‘to stay’

DESPITE THE APPARENT CALLS from the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) for the Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA) to remove its fluorescent “pothole marker” flags, the association says it will be doing no such thing.

BRSA president Sharmaine Roland-Bowen has said that if MTW personnel want the florescent yellow markers moved, they are going to have to do it themselves.

A defiant Roland-Bowen spoke to the DAILY NATION yesterday, one day before the MTW’s islandwide emergency roadworks pothole-fixing programme kicks into high gear.

“[MTW] told us we were in contravention of some act, so basically we would have to remove them,” she said. “But I am waiting to see when they would send us a written document instructing us to move them or if it’s just verbal.”
