SCHOOLS ARE BEING encouraged to look for ways to slash the annual $2 million bill for industrial cleaning, which is just a fraction of the maintenance cost.
Stating that it was just the price of one visit to each plant per year, project manager of the Education Planning Implementation Unit (EPIU) in the Ministry of Education, Richard Harrison, yesterday encouraged schools to put measures in place to cut down on dust and the collection of other particles.
Harrison, speaking at the end of a tour of Combermere School, said maintenance was a problem across the board but the ministry intended to establish clear guidelines for it.
“It is an issue, and it’s highlighted through much of what is seen at this school. The ministry will be forthcoming with the necessary guidelines for all schools to ensure that principals are assisted by clear guidelines to be passed on to the relevant staff so that these things can be better attended to on a consistent basis,” he stated.
