Classic starts track season

SEEMS THE SECOND time proved the charm.

There won’t be a false start to the local athletics calendar this time as the season is finally set to get under way today at the National Stadium with the staging of the New Year’s Odd Distance Classic from 2 p.m.

Athletics Association of Barbados president Catherine Jordan confirmed the season-opening meet is a go for this afternoon after the event was initially delayed by a week over the uncertainty surrounding the status of the Waterford venue.

“Colin Spencer had left by that time and we needed a contact person to deal with policy so I then spoke to Ronald Thompson to get things set up afterwards but by then it would have been too late,” explained Jordan.
