Govt ‘pays up’ NIS loans

THE NATIONAL INSURANCE Scheme (NIS) is not Government’s cash cow.

That assurance has come from Minister of Labour and Social Security Senator Dr Esther Byer Suckoo, as she sought to dispel rumours that the NIS was giving Government money to fund its projects.

Byer Suckoo explained that while Government benefited from loans from the NIS, those loans usually carried high interest rates.

She said sometimes those rates were even higher than those of commercial banks.
