Marvay making moves

BY now we all know the name and the face and Damian Marvay has no plans to slow down.

In 2016, the entertainer had a hectic and successful Crop Over season. He placed second in the Sweet Soca competition and for the first time he became the People’s Monarch with the help of a real crowd-pleaser called Know The Face.

A lot has happened since then, because the song has now garnered over a million hits on YouTube and earned him a spot at the semi-finals of the International Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad and Tobago.

Since October the high-energy performer has been calling the twin-island republic a second home, but he recently took a break from his schedule there to return to Barbados where he sat down with Weekend Buzz.

He expressed his excitement about making it to an even bigger stage.

“I am a little nervous because people were telling me I would get into both competitions here and in Trinidad and now we are talking about presentations, with dancers . . . but win or lose I will be happy with any kind of place,” he said with much enthusiasm.

He said his early move to the land of calypso was strategic and it has been preparing him to survive that country’s hectic scene.

The Survive The Weekend singer said that kudos must be given to Ingrid Holder of Live Wire Entertainment, who is a part of his management team in Barbados. And he said it was the foresight of his main managers at Country Life Music Ltd that worked out his Trinidadian deals.

“I think that I’ve been preparing since October and it’s a good thing that my management agreed that we should go in early and make sure that they get to know me and to make sure that I get to know them, so right now it just feels like a third act and next month gonna be the fourth act,” he added.

In addition to performing internationally and across the region, he has become a frequent performer at the “the new capital of Port-of-Spain”, the VAS Lounge. His time there has been filled with numerous promotional appearances on television and radio, and some recording with Precision Productions, based in San Fernando.

With that company he released Vibrate which was a co-production with BadJohn Republic and since he is not one to forget his roots, he has also released Tomorrow, compliments of the Anson Pro and De Red Boyz.

A grateful Marvay thanked the public for their support and though he is known for being forgetful, he promised to remember their love and keep the music coming.

“That’s why I try to stop and talk to every person because I want to go against the song,” he said. “I’ve been trying it and my brain capacity has been keeping up.

“Every single place everyone sings the song, [Know The Face] word for word with me, but I don’t want to take it for granted, I don’t want to lose it . . .,” he said. (TG)
