PLAYING AT home proved to be the catalyst for Harrison College as they ended a 14-year hockey drought by taking the National Sports Council’s senior boys’ league title in impressive style last week.

Harrison College and St Leonard’s Boys’ battled fiercely in the first half on the grass pitch at Crumpton Street before the top marksman of the tournament, Ryan Burke, skilfully eluded his defender and slotted home his ninth goal, beating the keeper to the left.

The celebrations started in earnest seven minutes into the second half when Jake Hart put the game to bed for Kolij by scoring from a well placed shot to the right of the St Leonard’s custodian. 

Harrison College had not won a senior hockey title since 2003. Their stick magician Jules Inniss took the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. (KB)
