THE 12-YEAR-OLD girl who died after she was hit by a car this afternoon has been identified as Destiny Martina Thompson of Vineyard, St Philip.
The former student of Springer Memorial was attempting to cross the road at Lower Greys, Christ Church when she was struck by a car driven by 26-year-old Alicia Mayers of Wildey, St Michael.
Police say preliminary investigations suggest that Thompson got out of a minibus and attempted to cross the road behind the bus. Mayers was travelling in the opposite direction.
The girl received injuries to her head and died on the spot.
This is the second such road fatality for the year. On February 2, 59-year-old Vincent Leroy Alleyne was struck by a car after he attempted to cross the road behind a bus at Harts Gap, Christ Church.
Police therefore appealed to people using public transportation to always ensure that the road way is clear before attempting to cross the road.
