DEAR CHRISTINE: Maybe we can still be friends

DEAR CHRISTINE, My name is G.A. and I am a very nice young woman, but very unlucky. I have a loving mind for everyone no matter what people will say of me.

Christine, this is my problem. About two years ago I was very close with a loving, nice, sweet man who I knew as a friend for about seven years. We had a good thing going and I wished it would never end.

I love him very much for all he stands for – honesty, understanding and kindness. Recently, however, I noticed that I do not see or hear from him like before. It had me very worried.

After a few weeks passed he called me. I asked him what had happened and he said he was only trying to play the game right because he does not want his girlfriend to find out about his outside friendship.

I knew about his girlfriend even before we got close. I do love him and I know that he loves me too. I would like to be part of his friendship.

I do not want to take him away from his girlfriend. Please tell me what to do – if you are really there to help all who seek your advice.

– G.A

Dear G.A.,

I believe you mean it when you say you would like a part of this man’s friendship. I doubt however that you would be satisfied with only this after a while. That man would be called upon to make up his mind about either of you.

Well, from my viewpoint, it seems as though he has done this already. He has chosen the other girl.

While you were “friends”, it was all right to see you but now things have got a lot deeper, he is pulling out. I don’t think it was right to encourage you into a love affair. He knew he had someone else.

Try not to make yourself so readily available to him, for it is quite possible that with slight encouragement from you, his playing the game can turn into foul play.
