ONGOING CHALLENGES with bus availability has “significantly” impacted on a major revenue arm of the Transport Board.
Manager of marketing and corporate communications, Lynda Holder, yesterday confirmed that the charter service, which she described as “secondary” in the Board’s operations, had taken a hit.
Transporting schoolchildren to tours, sports and other activities fall under the charter service and for the second time in the last week, the Board has indicated that it will not be able to provide transport for two major events on the school calendar.
First it was National Primary School Athletic Championships (NAPSAC), and yesterday chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, told the WEEKEND NATION the Government-owned buses cannot accommodate the schools this year, and that they are in the midst of discussions with private operators to ensure that schoolchildren are transported to the 13th edition of Agrofest, which opens next Friday.
