BARBADIAN cycling ace Kelvin “Bird” Daniel will be looking to make it two in a row when he defends his title at the St Lucia Independence International Drag Race meet at the Base Drag Strip next Wednesday.

Daniel will be aboard a well prepared Automotive Art/Wow Displays/Damarios Cycles/Keep Intouch/ MB Auto Kawasaki ZX10R green machine and is part of a two-man team for the outing as the Caribbean island celebrates its 38th anniversary of Independence.

The other Barbadian rider is Sheridan “Vice” Mohammed, who will ride his Black Knight Bikers Suzuki GSXR, a 1000cc machine.

“The motorcycles have been loaded and destined for the Base Drag Strip in St Lucia, where this year’s international drags will be held and Sheridan and I are both eager to lay some rubber down at the drag strip,” Daniel said.

Competition is expected to be keen as the event has attracted drag racers from other Caribbean countries.

Mohammed, who will be competing for the first time in St Lucia, said he was curious to see what the competition was like and hoped to be competitive. He said he would do his best to be at the top of the time-sheets.

Daniel, who also holds the titles in Grenada and Barbados, said his machine had been race-prepared by technical specialist Owen Proverbs of OP’s Garage, and he was pleased with the way the cycle performed during the test before it was shipped to St Lucia.

“I am thankful to be returning to The Base . . . and I will try my best to retain the 1/4 mile drag title,” he added. (TT)
