Man charged in connection with shots fired behind Glendairy remanded

THE MAN WHO WAS SHOT behind Glendairy Prison last week has been remanded to HMP Dodds after appearing in court today on several charges.

Shamar Sylvester Barnard, 29, of Licorish Village, My Lords Hill, St Michael was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of cannabis, assault to prevent lawful apprehension of himself and cultivation of cannabis.

According to police, they responded to a report of gunshots being fired behind the old Glendairy Prison at Station Hill On Sunday afternoon and encountered a man carrying a firearm.

The man received a gunshot injury and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance for medical attention.

He was treated and discharged and Barnard was subsequently charged for the offences.

Barnard was remanded until April 5 when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court. (PR/SAT)
