Early sex a big mistake

A single mother in her late 20s recalls what it was like becoming pregnant as a teenager and how that impacted her life.

I WAS 12 years old and had just started second form at secondary school. It was between late September and early October that I began to feel funny. I told my mother and it was she who realised I had missed my period and may be pregnant.

Mummy took me to the doctor and he confirmed I was pregnant. That evening she told daddy what had happened. There was a lot of anger. He did not want anything to do with me. I was so scared; I wanted to disappear.

Within weeks of that I stopped going to school. That came about when I was involved in another fight and mummy was called to the school by the principal. He complained that I was always fighting and that my behaviour was not good enough. Mummy told him she would try to get me to change and said I would have to, given that I was pregnant. (SP)
