SOME OF the lesser stars seized the moment toshine when the fourth edition of the Massy United Insurance Clash of the Titans road tennis tournament served off at the Dover courts on Sunday night with first prize of $12 000 at stake.

In spite of an inexplicable 87-minute late start and a later stoppage of 23 minutes for rain, a good crowd of locals and visitors enjoyed the layout reminiscent of scenes from medieval times, with tents surrounding the venue and the keen players jousting to advance to the next round.

The fiery Allan Davidson returned to action with an aggressive 21-18, 21-19 win over David Arrendell, who never looked at home in spite of considering Dover to be his training venue.

Showing some extra pounds and sporting amuch too small pants did not affect Davidson’sshots or his chatter during the game. (KB)
