Brazilian beef banned

BARBADOS HAS PLACED a temporary ban on the importation of all meat and meat products from Brazil.

And a special investigation has been launched that will see three Government ministries determine if corned beef from the South American country will be allowed to return to supermarket shelves or be banned indefinitely, in the wake of a rotten meat scandal.

Senior veterinary officer Dr Mark Trotman has also advised retailers to remove all Brazilian meat products from their shelves and has urged the public not to purchase corned beef or other canned meats manufactured in Brazil.

On Monday, Jamaica’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries made banned canned meat imported from the world’s second largest beef producer. (BA)
