Comissiong to file Hyatt suit today

POLITICAL ACTIVIST David Comissiong will today follow through on a threat of civil action aimed at preventing the eventual construction of the Hyatt Centric hotel on the outskirts of Bridgetown.

In a press statement yesterday, the attorney said he had written an official letter to Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite and would file his official affidavit on the matter at the Supreme Court today at 1 p.m.

He is scheduled to host a press briefing immediately after filing his lawsuit, which is seeking a judicial review of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s decision to grant permission to businessman Mark Maloney to commence construction of the Hyatt property.

Stuart determined that an environmental impact assessment was not necessary to green-light the Hyatt project, but Comissiong is contending that one should be done, in addition to the staging of at least one town hall meeting, and consultation with people who live in and around the Bay Street, St Michael area where the hotel it to be built.
