BRIEANNA BOYCE loves to run.
After capturing three golds and one silver at the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships, the Alleyne student was named victrix ludorum with a total of 38 points.
“I feel extremely proud about my achievement. All my hard work has paid off and I thank God for bringing me through,” she told SUNSPORT.
“I worked hard day by day to prepare for the various championships I participated in over these past three months. I just did what I was told to and it paid off.”
Boyce has been competing since the primary school level as a student of St Joseph Primary School, where she won several medals in the Andrea Blackett Zone of the Pine Hill Dairy National Primary Schools Athletic Championships (NAPSAC).
Boyce also gave an exceptional performance at Alleyne’s inter-house championships, where she achieved the victrix ludorum title and shattered a 37-year-old record in the Under-13 Girls’ 400 metres.

Expressing her love for track and field, she revealed that her coach Clifton Phillips devoted much of his time to assisting her and may someday lead to her competing on the world stage.
“I enjoy competing. I love track and field. I did what was correct and my performances have shown that hard work does pay off. I would love to represent my country Barbados once the opportunity arises,” she said.
Boyce explained that balancing schoolwork and athletics was not a walk in the park since she often missed classes for training.
However, she understood they worked hand in hand and made sure to call a friend to get her homework assignments, which ensured she stayed on top of her studies. (RG)
