Testing good for athletes

LET THE drug-testing continue!

That’s the unanimous cry of physical education teachers following the random testing of athletes at the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships (BSSAC) for the use of performance-enhancing drugs, last week.

After a number of athletes from various schools were tested during the two-day finals at the National Stadium last week, at least four coaches, in separate interviews, told NATION SPORT they agreed with the decision to conduct such tests as the practice prepared them for what is to come.

Athletes at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels are usually tested for use of banned performance-enhancing substances at the start of the athletics season each year. (RA)
