THE BARBADOS Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) has not accused the Ministry of Education of dismissing teachers. Rather, it has said that it has issues with the boards of management of some schools and the unfair dismissal of three members.
President Mary Redman, in responding to an article in yesterday’s DAILY NATION headlined Fed-Up Teachers Marching, explained that not all members of the union were teachers.
She said that in one case a board had dismissed a non-teaching union member based on a report and without a hearing. The BSTU head added they were presently fighting three cases of unfair dismissal of members among other issues that had prompted protest action. (AC)
